Cabinet approves bill to hike MPs salary Cabinet approves hike in MPs salaryThe Union Cabinet of India today cleared the bill of the proposed hike in the salaries on of the Members of Parliament. The new salaries are hiked by Rs.34,000 making it Rs.50,000 from current salary of Rs.16,000.

This argument of salary hike aroused that even the secretary of the government gets Rs.80,000 a month. MP also gets daily allowance of Rs.1000 besides his/her base salary, when Parliament is in session or for a House committee meeting.

Member of Parliament of India is also allowed for a constituency allowance of Rs 20,000 per month and another Rs.20,000 per month for office expense allowance.

MP is also entitled for certain number of Air Journeys, AC first class train travel, rent free flat or a hostel accommodation for his entire term of the house.

Sonia Gandhi, Congress chief, had also raised the issue and gave nod for the revision of salary for MPs. Sonia said, “As a pilot with Indian Airlines, Rajiv Gandhi drew more salary than his mother Indira Gandhi who was prime minister of India.”
