Indian Space and Research Organization (ISRO) today launched India’s Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) into orbit and successfully placed remote sensing satellite Cartosat-2B and four other satellites after successful lift off from spaceport in Sriharikota.
After 51-hour countdown, the 44 metre tall four staged PSLV-C-15, costing Rs. 260 crore, lift off from a launch pad at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota with ignition of the core first stage and perfectly placed the satellites one after the other.
The scientists were relieved with this successful launch, headed by Dr. K Radhakrishnan made ISRO and country proud as ISRO’s workhorse PSLV soared into clear skies at 9.22 AM (IST) from the spaceport in the East Coast in Andhra Pradesh.
On this occasion ISRO’s chairman Dr. K Radhakrishnan said, “ISRO’s 230 tonne PSLV-C-15 was 44 metres tall – soared towards the heavens from the spaceport, about 80 km north of Chennai. The five satellites together weigh 819 kg.”
