The Election Commission on India today announced the schedule of Bihar assembly election which will take place from October 21, 2010 to November 20, 2010.
Chief Election Commissioner S.Y. Quraishi said that the elections will be conducted in six phase and the polling dates are October 24 and 28 as well as Nov 1 and 9 including starting dates i.e. Oct 21 and Nov 20, 2010. By elections of the Banka Lok Sabha constituency will be held simultaneously, Quraishi added while talking to reporters in New Delhi today.
Polling details are as follows:-
Polling for a total no of 243 seats will start from October 21. Polling for 47 seats will be held on October 21, 2010, October 24 for 45 seats, 28 for 48 seats, November 1 for 42 seats, November 9 for 35 seats and November 20 for 26 seats.
Counting for 243 seats will be conducted on November 24. Polling will be held at 56,943 polling stations which are spread all over the state and 5.50 crore people are expected to use their power to vote.
This election will be the first after S.Y. Quraishi took over the position of Chief Election Commissioner on July 30, 2010. Bypolls election for Banka Lok Sabha seat will also be conducted due to the death of Gidvijay Singh who was MP from this seat.
